I am and have been a huge fan of online shopping for a while now, and I think it is so convenient to have the luxury of buying clothes at my leisure, which is nice. Plus, the clothing online seem to be more exclusive than ones you will find at the stores, and getting to unwrap your package when it finally arrives almost feels like you received a gift even if you purchased it yourself. Seeing that we are in the digital age where we can do things at the click of a button, so it is only right to take advantage. Although like everything else, online shopping comes with its cons, like trying to figure out what size you are in these cute pair of jeans you found or having to wait for your items to ship, which can be off-putting. However, I decided to help guys out by sharing some tips that I use personally that may just alleviate some of these pains. Check out 10 tips for when you decide to make an online purchase below, and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog for post updates!
1. ALWAYS check the “sale” section first
I think many people refer to the “sale” section as the ugly left overs that you assume you won’t like, but you’d be surprised what you can find in there. If you are patient enough, there are actually lots of great items for cheap, which will help you save money. Most importantly, make sure that you are checking this section before looking at the new full-priced options, because you will never know what you will find for a smaller cost.
2. Read customer reviews
This saved me from purchasing so many items online. Customer reviews are always a good thing to look at because you are most-likely getting real experiences from real people. I try to look for comments where customers are complaining about the same issue, because if you are hearing it more than once, than its more than likely to be true. If you are ever iffy about the fit or quality of the item you are interested in purchasing, then this should definitely be something to look at before making a final decision.
3. Don’t be afraid to shop in the men’s section
As you all know by now, I love shopping in the men’s section. It can be great for finding oversized clothing because sometimes women’s sizes just don’t cut it because everything is made to be smaller. You can even find cheaper items by checking here sometimes, especially basic tees. I also like to look at the shoes in the men’s section because of their sneaker options that they have. A benefit that can come in handy is that the smaller sizes for men’s doesn’t sell out quite as fast as if you were to look in the women’s section. Plus, all you need to do is find out what size you are in men’s shoes, and there you go, a new pair for you!
4. Look for promotions/discounts
Most online sites offer a discount, whether it be by signing up with an email or simply finding them on their site. Look around for any of those at the top of each page you go to, and if you are a student, sign up for Unidays. It is 100% free to do so, and once you do, it will provide you will all sites that offer a student discount.
5. Make a list of what you need
Everybody has been in a situation where they go shopping and come out with everything but what they were actually looking for. I know I have done this in the past, but the best way to prevent this from happening is by making a list of items that you need or have been looking for. By doing this, you won’t overspend or purchase items that you will never end up wearing.
6. Check multiple stores for item BEFORE purchasing anything
You will find that multiple stores will have the same item you are looking for, or at least, one that looks very similar. By looking around at multiple sites, you can find that another store may be selling the same item for a cheaper cost. This can also help you save money and help make sure you are not overspending on something that you can find for a less amount.
7. Look at the size guide
Finding your correct size online can be a huge pain in the ass sometimes, because it is hard to tell which size would fit best through a 2D screen. There are some ways to work around this, like for instance, looking at the size guide. Individual stores will have their own, so if you are not familiar with their clothing, take a look at their size guide that way you have a better idea about what size will work for your body.
8. Look at all pictures/videos of the item
This is very helpful because visuals is all we have when shopping online. I look at each picture very closely and it is even better when they have videos, like ASOS does. It can help with giving you an idea of what an item will look like, especially with videos, because you can see the way it moves. Pay attention to detail at all costs because it has saved me from buying quite a few things in the past!
9. Read the item’s description
I like to read the description, because it tells you which fabrics were used to make an item, because It can be hard to tell by just looking at the pictures. This also will tell you what size the model is wearing, so it gives you a better idea of how the retailer does their sizing. It also lets me know that I usually have to order at least 2 sizes up from the model because they are tiny lol. Nevertheless it will help you if you are having trouble figuring out your size.
10. Search for a measurement converter if needed
This tip is mainly for stores that don’t have an option of US sizes, which can happen sometimes. All you have to do is do a few quick google searches of what the size would convert to in the US or wherever you may be from. Just know that European sizes are NOT the same, even though it can seem that way, so do not choose a size until it has been converted, because you don’t want to order something too big or too small for you.
