It has officially been 15 years since the passing of the infamous R&B sensation Aaliyah, and even after so long, she is still seems to have a musical influence to this day. If you haven’t heard of her, here is a little background information. Her debut album dropped in 1994 and was titled Age Aint Nothing But a Number, which included two hit singles called “Back and Forth” and “At Your Best (You Are Love)”. She went on to sell a million copies, and became an instant success from that point on. A few years later, she dropped her second album called One In A Million that was produced by Timberland, which doubled her previous album sales to two million copies. Between her budding music career, Aaliyah got into film, and starred in movies like Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned, which lead her to get offered a role in The Matrix sequel. Her third album was titled One In A Million, and it was released in 2001, just a just month before her tragic death from a fatal plane crash after leaving the Bahamas to do a video shoot.
Not only did Aaliyah make great music, but the queen of R&B also had amazing style to match. Her ideal look included oversized jackets worn over a crop top with a pair of baggy jeans layered over boxers. Other pieces of her go-to style were her infamous bandanas that she seemed to have in every color. Lets just say that she did it best with her iconic 90’s tomboy style. Since the 15th anniversary of her death was just a week ago, I couldn’t help but think how she would be dressing today. Although I think her style would have definitely evolved, I don’t think she would have strayed too far from her signature tomboy ways. Check out some throwback pics of the late singer, and how I would style her. Enjoy!
