The Met Gala was last night and it sure was a star-studded event. It is one I always look forward to because I get so excited to see what everybody is wearing. Now in case you have forgotten about my post from last year when I talked about the Met Gala (see original post here), I also revealed the theme for this year’s event, which was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” What this theme was to showcase how technology and the digital age have changed the way clothing is produced by updated products such as 3D printing and laser cutting, and how that has impacted the industry today. Also keep in mind that this is the one time a year where it is okay to go all out and interpret the theme and mix it with personal style.
Now that I have given you a little background on the Met Gala, I of course want to discuss the looks that were seen on the red carpet. I was actually pretty disappointed this year in what I saw versus what I expected to see, especially from some icons like Sara Jessica Parker and Beyoncé. I guess I was hoping that more people would take more risks, but all I saw were similar styles that incorporated silver or some kind of metallic trend. Although, I still found that I had some of my ultimate favorites of the night like Gigi Hadid (in Tommy Hilfiger), Karolina Kurkova (in a Marchesa & IBM’s Watson collab), Brie Larson (in Proenza Schouler), Nicole Kidman (in Alexander McQueen), and Zendaya (in Micheal Kors Collection). They all looked flawless and I loved their dress choices right away.
Although red carpets are usually focused more on women, I must say that there were quite a few men that stole the spotlight as well. Zayn Malik (in Versace) took his look and elevated it to incorporate the theme by adding robotic arms on his tux sleeves. Other favorites of mine were Jared Leto and Will. I. Am both wearing Gucci. I loved the all white on Leto and the way he accessorized his look with a diamond-enccrusted pendant replacing a bow tie and his cane proved that he knows exactly what he’s doing. Will. I. Am also took advantage of the futuristic theme by adding some cool accessories to his monochromatic look. I loved the floral embroidery going up his sleeves that off-set the all black and his hat with the visor covering his eyes was out of this world. Take a look at all of my favorites below and let me know which ones you liked the best!
